When you live here, it’s easy to take our natural wonders for granted. You get caught in the day-to-day grind of running your business and the next thing you know you’ve gone years without visiting some of the places that others would dream to have in their own backyard.

Such is the case with the Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor, one of the oldest nature preserves in the state. Last year they opened their fabulous new facility on Hwy 57, and a couple weeks ago we made our way over and strapped on some snowshoes to check it out after the New Years snowfall.

What an amazing sight on a sunny winter Saturday as we hit the trails fresh to cross the bridges and boardwalks. At $5 a person, this is a must-do experience in your next visit to the Door, just a 10-minute drive from the Inn.

If you do it, swing by Bearded Heart Coffee just up the road to grab a great cup of coffee in the peninsula’s coziest coffee java hut! Browse the slideshow below to see what awed us in our recent trip!
